Polynésie française A l’initiative du gouvernement de Polynésie française, un programme d’inventaire du patrimoine sous-marin du territoire a été entrepris. Depuis 1992, la mission de conduire cet inventaire a été confiée au GRAN, dont l’antenne de Polynésie est dirigée par Robert Veccella. Les informations sont recueillies à partir de l’étude des archives et à l’aide d’enquêtes auprès des populations des îles et des atolls. Les principaux thèmes de recherche sont :

French Polynesia At the initiative of the government of French Polynesia, a program of inventory of the underwater patrimony has been undertaken. Since 1992, the task to carry on this inventory was given to the GRAN under the direction of Robert Veccella. Data are collected from archives but also from inhabitants of the islands.. Main themes of research are :
Several sites have been surveyed : - Channel entrance of several atolls, where fishing weight and Polynesian anchors are collected. - Dutch Africaense Galley sunk in 1722 on the coral reef of the atoll of Takapoto (Tuamotou). This wreck is one ship of the discovery expedition led by Roggeveen through the Pacific. - American bark Julia Ann sunk in 1854 on the atoll of Manuae, also named Scilly (Society Archipelago). This site was discovered in 1997 in the frame of a joint operation, between the Maritime Museum of Sydney and GRAN under the authority of the "Departement d'Archéologie du Centre Polynésien des Sciences Humaines". - Danish bark Norby, sunk in 1900 on Tepua reef , Raiatea island (Society archipelago) - Four masted County of Roxburg, sunk in 1906 during an hurricane on the atoll of Takaroa (Tuamotou). - Amanu |
