Malta Island, June 24th 2004.
In the morning the drawings carried out the day before were cleaned up and prepared for the final touches. Max Guérout and Martine Sciallano went to Valletta on the invitation of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage. Since the initial training course of Villefranche and over the past month, a climate of friendship has been established and it is less a question of giving a progress report on accomplished work than to discuss future co-operation with the GRAN.
During the first part of this day we meet at the University of Malta, in the buildings of Mediterranean Institute which Simon Mercieca directs. After a short speech by Max Guérout, Joe Mifsud evokes the program « La navigation du savoir » (of which he is the director) and stresses the importance of the very strong bonds which are created when a whole team works as one. After his speech each trainee receives a certificate of qualification. It is then a happy group that travels to the port of Marsamxett to have a coffee on the terrace of a café’ that enjoys a wonderful view of Valetta. In gest, Jean-Marie Gassend quickly creates and hands out his own personalised certificates: a series of watercolours depicting traditional Maltese boats. Then, after this long June evening we move towards Birgu where we organized our dinner to celebrate the end of the campaign. This was held at a pretty restaurant nested behind the walls of the bastion of Castille, which during the siege of 1565, witnessed an epic battle epic between the knights of Malta and the troops of Soliman.
This pleasant evening provides the opportunity for all the team to strengthen the bonds which were created over the past weeks. The next session will take place in Algeria with the help, enthusiasm and dynamism of our three friends. |
