Retour des plongeurs à bord de Diversion.

During the last week of the school we will concentrate our work on the anomalies of Gnejna Bay.

To carry out this work we rent the boat Diversion for a couple of days. The equipment is transported to Gnejna by car and by boat. Herve has sent all the hits together with their GPS positions by e mail.

We plan to locate the the hits using a hand held GPS and then carry out a circular search around the area. The first anomaly turns out to be part of a raft constructed out of 45 gallon drums !

Two other teams carried out similar searches in different areas. Once again, the hits turned out to be metal debris on the seabed. Although the objects are not of archaeological interest the students are still learning important techniques.

During the breaks, Jean Marie Gassend lectured on ancient naval architecture.

Michael Spiteri.

In the afternoon, 6 divers carried out a linear search. The seabed in this area of the bay is covered by Posdonia which impedes the visual inspection and detection of any archaeological objects.

The days ends with training the students in the techniques of towing the diver. Djamal Ferchouli and Elaine Azzopardi come up from the dive with large smiles, a clear indication that they enjoyed the experience. .
